Researchgroups in The Netherlands

Statistics, VU University, Amsterdam

The statistics group is embedded in the Department of Mathematics and has strong links with the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics of the VU medical centre. The research aims at theoretical understanding of statistical procedures, and at modelling and data analysis, in particular in the life sciences, (neurosciences, genetics, cancer research, medical imaging and signal analysis). In both activities Bayesian methods are an important, but not exclusive, ingredient.

An important part of the theoretical research concerns the properties of posterior distributions resulting from priors on high- or infinite-dimensional parameter sets, with as general question whether these truly and efficiently reflect the reality behind the data, or give biased and/or over-confident reconstructions.
